Competition Guidelines
Eligibility
The contest is open to all Filipino youth aged 16 to 35 nationwide. The PEACEtahan 2008 has three (3) contest categories: song and music video, infomercial and poster. Contestants may join in all categories but can submit only one entry per category. The song and music video, infomercial, and poster categories can be a group or individual undertaking. Participants may use Filipino or English in the contests. Participants may also use other languages provided that translation in Filipino or English is sent together with the entry.
Interested Filipino youth must submit an accomplished entry form, available at the Sulong CARHRIHL Secretariat Office and also downloadable at www.sulongnetwork.ph / www.sulongyouth.wordpress.com. In the entry form, a brief description of the contest entry (maximum of 150 words) should be included.Note:
· Entries must be exclusive to this competition, unpublished and must not have been submitted as entry in previous contests. In other words, the Entry should be original upon submission.
· Conveners and employees of Sulong CARHRIHL and their relatives up to the second degree of consanguinity are disqualified to join.
Eliminations
Submitted entries will be screened in Manila from 16-26 February 2008. Preliminary screening will be officiated by Sulong CARHRIHL and contest judges. Shortlisted Entries, i.e one-fourth of all submitted Entries, will be notified via phone call from Sulong CARHRIHL on the first week of March 2008. The names of the participants and their Entries will also be announced on the Sulong CARHRIHL website.Shortlisted Entries will then be exhibited for public viewing starting March.
Winners
A shortlist of entries composed of ten finalists from each category will be featured in the PEACEtahan 2008 Concert and Awards Night to be held in April 2008.
In each category there will be a grand prize, first runner-up and, second runner-up winners. Aside from plaques of recognition at stake for the winners, the winning entries will receive cash prizes. Non-winning finalist entries will receive consolation prizes. All the participants will receive a certificate of participation.
The entries (song videos, infomercials, posters) shall become the property of Sulong CARHRIHL and shall be used by the said organization for any form of peace advocacy without prior notice. Entries can be disqualified on ground of infringement of copyrights.
The Sulong CARHRIHL Secretariat has the right of action against the contestant if it may later on discover that the contestant is not the creator or owner of the copyright to the winning work. Sulong CARHRIHL shall not be liable to any court action if a third party files a case against the winner and/or contestant who plagiarized the work of the said third party.
Selection and Judging Criteria
The winners will be selected through two methods: a public polling system (25%), and the evaluation of the entries by a set of judges (75%).
The popular vote will be done through a travelling exhibit of the shortlisted finalists in schools, universities, and malls. The public will be voting the top entry of their choice.
Entries will be evaluated by a panel of judges comprising of peace and human rights advocates, local music industry experts and recognized visual artists. The panel of judges per category shall have five (5) members.
Entries will be judged on clarity, originality, and their contribution to the understanding of peace and peacebuilding. Finalists will be selected per category on the basis of the following: 40 points – content; 60 points – composition, originality and impact.
Timeframe
All entries must be submitted by no later than 15 February 2008, 5:00 p.m. Submitted entries in all categories will be screened and judged in Manila from 16-26 February 2008.
